PDC Announces 2013 Student Ambassadors

The Pond-Deshpande Centre is pleased to announce their 2013 Student Ambassadors.  (From: Press release-October 16, 2013). The Student Ambassador Program of the PDC selects up to 25 students enrolled in post-secondary education who are innovators and changemakers from across New Brunswick each year. On Oct. 29th the two-year program begins in Fredericton at the University of New Brunswick, focused on entrepreneurial skills development, project-based real-world experience and systems change leadership.

The Student Ambassador Experience encompasses:
• a trip to Boston from Oct. 30-Nov.2 providing a first-hand look into the workings of the entrepreneurial world with a tour of start-up communities;
• the delivery of a regional Youth Entrepreneurship Summit;
• the execution of entrepreneurial campus projects with a team, mentors and funding;
• the opportunity to win up to $1,000 to test their own innovative idea;
• the chance to explore the social enterprise ecosystems including the Sandbox in India;
• the opportunity to participate in Startup Weekends and attend East Coast Startup Week;
• the opportunity to participate in Business and idea Pitch competitions, Invitations to mixers, community events conferences and
• to meet a phenomenal peer network from across the province.

We are helping build a movement of young change agents on a mission to turn possibilities for a better world into today’s reality. We strive to better equip the next generation of changemakers to take action,” said Karina LeBlanc, Executive Director, Pond-Deshpande Centre

The 2013 Ambassadors represent great diversity from their educational backgrounds which include: Philosophy, Computer Science, Engineering, Communications, Political Science and Marketing to the geographies and post-secondary institutions they represent which include all of the Universities, Community Colleges and Collège communautaires in the province.
“Today’s reality is that the region needs students to put their talent and full potential to work toward transforming our future. The world needs young people of all ages and all walks of life to build a movement where systems change is a responsibility shared by all of us. And this dynamic, passionate group of Student Ambassadors, selected from over 100 nominations from across the province, are poised to do just that,” said Jenelle Sobey, Social Innovation Manager responsible for the design and delivery of the Student Ambassador Program.
The Pond-Deshpande Centre at the University of New Brunswick acts as a catalyst to grow and support a stronger culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the province of New Brunswick.
