PDC Updates Funding Program & Deadlines

August 14, 2014 | by: Heather Boyd-Kinnie

The Pond-Deshpande Centre provides seed funding, as well as on-going support for changemakers with innovative ideas to solve real-world problems that will improve & impact the world and the lives of people in it.

Through our funding program, we help support early-stage ventures through market validation, business model and early-stage prototype development.  The goal is to accelerate the development of innovations and new business ventures that will “do well and do good.”

Revisions to PDC Funding Program:

The Pond-Deshpande Centre believes in continually improving & innovating to better assist our clients and the community. We have recently revised our programs to better meet the needs of innovators & entrepreneurs who will benefit from timely assistance with early-stage market validation and idea evaluation.

In order to make the application process smoother and to address some previous confusion with terms, especially when innovative ideas have overlapped between previous funding programs, we have now streamlined these under the Changemaker Funding Program which now features TWO categories of funding:

1) The Catalyst Fund Program will assist with early-stage market validation. It will be open for applications year round and will award up to $5000. This replaces both the former Social Innovation Fund & the Technology Ignition Fund. It also incorporates the Student Catalyst Fund & Failure Fund innovators and will retain opportunities specific to their needs.

2) The Ignition Fund Program will assist with early-stage business model & and prototype development as required to validate the model. It will replace the previous Social Innovation Fund & the Technology Ignition Fund. It will also incorporate Failure Fund innovators. Applications will be accepted on January 31 and due to recent changes to our funding programs, the summer application deadline for 2014 has been extended to August 31). This fund could award up to $10,000.
